Lester is a 15 year old gelding from Holland. I have had him for 4 years and I am working on building up his confidence. When I first got him, he was scared of everything and it was very challenging to take him out to a new place for a competition.

When he is at home in the stable he is calm and trusting, but when exposed to new surroundings, he gets nervous and frightened.

This picture was taken on New Years Eve 2005.

Lester and I are warming up for a dressage competition at The Beach Country Club on January 18, 2009.

By the way, music makes me relaxed and makes me slow down, so I am listening to Jack Johnson during the warm-up.

When Lester notices that I am calm and relaxed, he gets a little calmed down too, so we both benefit from the music.

Lester actually behaved very well during the competition and I am very proud of him.

We were both VERY concentrated, but it was real fun.

No, we did not win, but it was a personal victory for me to show that he has gained confidence and trust enough to go outside his home stable to compete.

(And yes, his front legs should be parallel, but nobody is perfect)
